| Walgreens pharmacy patients can now register for walgreens.com online pharmacy simply by providing an e-mail address to
the pharmacy staff at any of the company's 3,079 stores nationwide. This
effectively eliminates the need for a patient to fill out an online
registration form. Information from the patient's pharmacy record is
used to create an online account.
"Because we're the only pharmacy that uses the same database for
both our store and online pharmacies, only Walgreens can offer this kind
of seamless registration process at its stores,'' said Dennis O'Dell,
Walgreens vice president of Health Services. "After our pharmacy
staff enters an e-mail address, the patient will be mailed a username,
password and PIN to log in.''
Using the Walgreens online service, patients can view their
prescription history, order prescriptions, schedule a pick-up time at
their neighborhood Walgreens store or have prescriptions shipped
directly to them. Customers also receive e-mail reminders to refill
medication and e-mail notices when prescription orders are
ready for pick-up, regardless of how they were ordered.
Walgreens, with sales expected to exceed $21 billion in fiscal 2000,
operates 3,079 stores in 43 US states and Puerto Rico and plans to have
6,000 stores by 2010.
