| NeimanMarcus.com
has implemented a new technology from RichFX thats lets visitors browse
a virtual three dimensional store. Clicking on a product displays picks
up the product and rotates in in three dimensional video motion. The new
technology, which is limited to the Blahnik's department at present,
takes advantage of video compression to provide realistic images over a
slower line speed.
Designer Manolo Blahnik, whose delicate shoes are preferred by
Hollywood's elite, was chosen as the first vendor to receive the 3-D
treatment. The online boutique is modeled after Blahnik's Manhattan shop
and features 13 different pairs of shoes for sale and original sketches
of his collection. Computer generated video allows customers to browse
the entire store and click on a particular shoe to see a close-up view,
just as they would in a bricks and mortar environment. Sunlight or
moonlight shines through the windows depending on what time the site is
accessed.
When we tested the store online it was nowhere near a smooth as the
demo we had from RichFX last month, even over a high speed link. However,
the technology has the ability to bring online merchandise to life and
truly enhance the eRetail shopping experience.
