Sharper Image Shows Strong Summer Growth |
| Although we make it a point to avoid covering the
financial performance of retailers (there's plenty of that already on
the Web), I thought The Shaper Image's latest results were worthy of a
snippet given the recent poor showing of other retailers this summer.
In a nutshell: August sales highlights for The Sharper Image include:
For the month of August, total Company sales of $30.9 million were 90 percent higher than the prior year's $16.3 million. Total store sales increased 81 percent, to $20.1 million from $11.1 million last year, led by a 80 percent increase in comparable store sales. Catalog sales increased 87 percent to $6.8 million from last year's $3.7 million. August Internet sales increased 162 percent to $4.0 million from last year's $1.5 million. For the seven months ending August 31, total Company sales were up 48 percent to $169.2 million compared to last year's $114.2 million. Total store sales increased 39 percent to $111.6 million from $80.1 million, with comparable store sales increasing 38 percent. Catalog sales of $34.6 million was a 33 percent increase over the prior year's $25.9 million. For the seven months ended August 31 Internet sales increased 184 percent to $23.0 million from last year's $8.1 million. Pretty impressive stuff! Food For Thought!
