| Staples announced the comprehensive roll out of
Staples.com access points to all 954 of its U.S. retail stores,
expanding in-store SKUs from 7,500 to 45,000 products, 100,000
downloadable software titles, and dozens of business services. In
addition, Staples is the first office supply superstore to offer
customers the option to pay for on-line purchases via cash, check or
credit at the store's registers.
"By integrating our on-line access in our retail store
locations, it gives us an opportunity to introduce our retail store
customers to Staples.com and helps us operate our stores more
efficiently,'' explains Ed Harsant, president of Staples North American
Stores. "We want to give the store associates the tools necessary
to provide our customers with best-in-class service. Whether they need
1,000 red binders or a service to help them market their business--we
want to meet all their small business needs.''
This launch follows a successful pilot of 20 stores around the U.S.
The online access points in-store will provide customers with a library
of information about products and business services to aid in
knowledgeable buying decisions. Additionally, it simplifies the special
orders process and provides an easy solution for fulfilling customer
orders when an item is not available at the store.
There will be up to four strategic areas around the store where
customers can access www.staples.com.
Those areas include furniture, the build-to-order computer kiosk, the
pack and ship center, as well as the technology area.
Customers have the choice of shopping with Staples in-store,
Staples.com or through the catalog. Staples offers the convenience of
returning items purchased on-line at any Staples retail store.
