Systems Inc.'s (NASDAQ: PRVW) electronic
software distribution platform, Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN)
is now offering its customers software downloads.
Online shoppers can visit the Amazon.com Software
Downloads store to buy software online and download it directly onto
their computers. Through a secure link to global technology distributor Ingram Micro,
Amazon.com is offering leading software titles such as Intuit TurboTax,
Norton Antivirus 2001, Macromedia Flash and FileMaker Pro for purchase
and immediate download via Preview Systems' ZipLock server. Ingram Micro
provides the software inventory as the host for a number of publishers,
while Preview Systems' platform provides the rights management to ensure
that both distribution and usage rights are efficiently and securely
managed.
"With Preview Systems' platform, we can now offer our software
shoppers something they haven't had before - near real-time product
fulfillment for software purchases," said Kirk Koenigsbauer,
general manager of software at Amazon.com. "For example, with tax
season upon us, Amazon.com users can save time by purchasing and
downloading their tax software from our new Software Downloads
store."
Preview Systems' digital commerce platform manages the licensing
rights and security of electronic software distribution between Ingram
Micro, Amazon.com and its customers. "With Preview Systems'
technology, online retailers can connect quickly and securely to our
inventory of premium software titles," said Kevin Murai, president
of Ingram Micro U.S. "In addition to our distribution services for
packaged software products, e-tailers can easily expand their offerings
and services to customers with digital software downloads."
